  • I ordered two apps: the artichoke salad and the calamari fritti. The artichoke salad was like flavorless coleslaw, and the artichokes were CLEARLY out of a can (not even a jar). The calamari didn't come with any sauce and when I asked for some they were baffled and brought me a bowl of tomato sauce. WTF. One of my dining companions said the carpaccio was flavorless. They didn't know what kind of gelato they had at first, which is forgivable since they just opened. After a quick trip to the kitchen they said they had chocolate and vanilla. My other dining companion ordered the chocolate and was served a mocha gelato.

I try to give them the benefit of the doubt because opening night is tough, but based on my experience tonight you can get better food at the crappy UWS dominican run Italian joints
  •  » quote
  • opening night never counts; i would give it a week or two so the restaurant gets its legs.
  •  » quote
  • but these things were indicative of some serious culinary cluelessness. I didn't expect anything amazing, but come on. There was only one other table in the place and our server was on his cellphone when we tried to get his attention and he put up his finger and finished his call

  • OK GUYS

i dunno, wha happen. worlds of diff or whatever, but... the review by me, amy (please chime in brooklyn_ael) and my fren erin and opiates

[x] beef carpaccio appetizer YES FUCKING PLEASE with shaved parmesean and nicely dressed greens, enough for three easily, so tender, very pink, delish

[x] salmon steak!!!! i usually HATE salmon STEAK cos it tends to be dry and boney this was enormous and tender and cooked perfectly and came with the BEST ROAST POTATOES and spinach with garlic holy shit i could barely finish the salmon and i am a pig

[x] fettucine with whateversitscalled bacon and cream sauce and parmesean HELLLLLLOOOOOOOOOO it was NOT too saucy (most italian places it's swimming in too much rich sauce), everything clinging perfectly to the fett, the bacon was perfect you could TASTE THE SMOKE. perfect BACON.

[x] something fish with lime and seafood sauce another HELLOOOOO so delicate, scrumpious. the veggies were crisp and perfect. sauce for dipping, do not want to waste.

OH WAIT, before we even ordered.... pizza bread with bruschetta and, spices i forget, rosemary?!?!? basil?? so warm and crispy i am dying to try the pizzas but i'll want to keep ordering the fish...

then roberto came out from the kitchen, brought us four ridic desserts, lemon torte (!!!!! YUM), best tiramisu i've had outside of italy, warm chocolate torte, and some apple wonderness a la mode.

three ppl = $44. we brought our own wine EXTRA PRICE BONUS, well, for now. til they get the license...

our other table of four had the pork chop and some pasta with meat sauce and salads and i forget what else were were all 0_0 it was so fucking good. we shared and kinda made a minor spectacle (sorry marvin) but everyone seemed to think we were OK.

i am going again immediately. as in next week when marvin is there again.

that is the honest shit from night #2. then we all went to clem's. the end.

sea beam (???) i think is the fish amy had, i never heard of it. YUM

Sea bream, yes. Absolutely perfectly cooked. Sweet and flakey with a delish sauce that I thought might be wierd cause it was described as a shellfish/tomato/lime broth but it was more like a fish stew type situation. Totally yummy.

God, I would be a horrible food reviewer lol.
But seriously, awesome food, awesome company. Would do again.

  • i went last night to visit CA. ran into eliz & veebs.

    ordered three salads/appetizers:

artichoke salad - i didn't care for it bc it's too lemony, but it was fresh! also with shaved parmesan

burata w/ roasted vegetables - i love burata.

scarmoza with grilled vegetables - delicious

    for entrees:

spinach ravioli in a butter sauce

braised lamb shank w/ gremoulata and mashed potatoes (YUM, and HUGE)

    for dessert:

    lemon tart

    chocolate almond cake

all that food, 52$ before tip. pretty good stuff, and it's a nice, cozy atmosphere.

  • My review: The burrata was delicious - a great hunk of cheese on cheese with a really acceptable salad underneath of greens and pan roasted (i think) peppers.

The short rib was a little less tender than I would've liked. The mashed potatoes were delicious, but the vegetable/sauce mix on top of it was definitely over salted.

The lemon tart meg and I had for desert was wonderful though. Great punch of sour and sweet, and the cream sauce really complemented the dish.

Also, everyone on staff was super friendly and attentive (as expected ;D). I would definitely go again.
  •  » quote
  • I got the frisee, fennel and pancetta salad. It was a little bitter and i though it could use a little more dimension though i felt like everything was very fresh, prepared well and was of good quality.

i also got the cavatelli with sausage and broccolini. i felt like it was missing something too, but it was otherwise well prepared and tasty. surprisingly light and fresh.

the lemon tart was great though i felt like there were a lot of different elements on the plate that didnt necessarily need to be there. i liked the lemon tart just fine with the slightly sweet vanilla whipped cream, though i dont feel fair complaining about getting extra fresh berries and creme anglaise.

all in all, i thought it was a good experience. once the kitchen finds their feet i think it will be awesome. i will probably try going back in a few weeks to see how things have progressed.

service, of course was awesome. i lurb yoo, carrie anne!

Oddly enough I remeber suggesting a soft opening to which he replied "what for?" Also training a staff is something that shouldve been considered prior to an opening but then again what do I know? Not much that was warranted for that place. I hate to still be all salty about it, but seriously I never knew someone could be so nice one day and manage to fuck you over the next.

coffee should be included in the price
a mimosa should not be 6 dollars on top of a 9 dollar meal
the potato serving size is very tiny but delicious
    some fruit would be nice
eggs benny were not runny at all
    but the holandaise was great
maybe a salad or something with the potatos? if no fruit
  •  » quote
  • yay! i'm super excited for this.

(i tried giving them a call, but no one answered.)
  •  » quote
  • i had a couple apps that you could def. make vegan by telling them no cheese (grilled vegetables for one, another was already vegan: just simple sauteed eggplant w/ tomato & basil i think?). the artichoke salad would be fine w/o cheese. you should be OK.
  •  » quote
  • eliz, i agree w/ most f yr comments except that i think the food should be more expensive, not the drinks less expensive. fruit is really expensive t maintain and dangerous cost-wise to put on every single plate, but you can buy it, we have it

and coffee is only $2 for unlimited which is fine for ppl who come in and only drink coffee. and the mimosas have fresh-squeezed OJ and not the cheap shit
  •  » quote
  • oh i'd totally be fine with the meals being more expensive if it meant a mimosa was included or something. the coffee being unlimited is also good. i am just used to comparing with places like harefield which has $11 for juice + coffee + mimosa or bloody mary + meal
