oh shit, motorino. they just opened a couple of weeks ago. the other day when I worked from home I almost had lunch there but went to kisoco piaxtla instead.

motorino just opened. interesting pizzas, cold cuts and a really pleasant, understated interior. will be trying soon.

that place on ainslie...what's it called?

  • what about those brick oven pizzerias?
  •  » quote
  • oh, that place is like a slightly worse version of frost restaurant, though I've only eaten at cono's once (frost a bunch of times). it's an old-school italian american joint with a focus on fish/seafood.
  •  » quote
  • i ate at frost a few times and it was pretty mediocre. sort of like Bamonte's without the cool room and waitstaff
  •  » quote
  • yeah, nothing special.
  •  » quote
  • just ate a burger and fries at Mothers. pretty decent bar burger. nicely salted. the fries were very tasty (seemed like they're cooked in peanut oil) but they were a little wilted and gummy. i'll def be back to try the Bison burger and maybe the tilapia sandwich. i'm very happy to have a place a block away where i can get a beer and a burger for $10 til midnight!
  •  » quote
  • I still haven't tried motorino, I didn't realize the place that replaced might diamond already opened. Hmm maybe I'l go there now.

    I love my corner
  •  » quote
  • forgot to mention: the bun sucked. stale, not toasted, and practically crumbled when i bit into it. hopefully next time will be better
  •  » quote
  • yeah, this whole "midrange" burger thing is a little confusing, but it sounds like something they should be able to get right.
  •  » quote
  • Yeah, mothers has really good sweet potato fries. The chili is pretty good too, but they have crappy hot sauce.
  •  » quote
  • the new place where otb was is now a place called "pagoda truethai"

Looks standard Bedford ave thai. I fuching love sweet potatoes I gotta check that other place out

  •  » quote
  • Looks pretty average. Still haven't tried Mothers, any update on that place? I had a couple of friends over on Sunday and they both said they wanted to move to the graham area
  •  » quote
  • i went back to Mothers for a second time. i ordered and sat down with kristin. we waited. a table of two guys sat down next to us. then another two guys sat down on the other side of us. both tables got their burgers and i sat and waited. the bartender was not behind the bar. finally he appeared and i said "i think you forgot about me. i have to leave. can i have my $5 back?" he said no and disappeared into the kitchen for a few minutes and then came running out with my burger in a bag apologizing profusely. i walked 2 blocks to my apartment, opened the bag, and the burger was ice cold. it had obviously been cooked, then cooled, and then handed to me without being reheated. maybe i'll try it again in the summer if it's still open. the L magazine tore it apart. terrible review

anyone been to Blue Stove yet?
  •  » quote
  • that pie shop? live up the block, go there all the time. pricey at $4.50/slice, but we share one anyway.

for a little while, the graham ave. area had two argentinian steak places--pampa and the one that was in the place that's now barossa. and now there are none. I feel bad for the pampa guys, as they seemed to put a lot of effort into that place, but it wasn't for me.

  •  » quote
  • it seemed creepy at first, but apparently the story (was written up somewhere) is that the dude who runs that store's daughter works in some bensonhurst bakery. she wanted to open up her own around here but rents were crazy. sometimes she would bring extras to her dad's shop and he would give it customers, and the rest, as they say, is (fairly recent) history. a couple of the restaurants, including sel de mer according to that thing I saw, get their bread from her.
