I've eaten at Pampa just to try it out. it's actually very good. it's an argentinian steak house that also has some pasta dishes, since argentinians are often italian. that place is so off my radar that someone on the board the other day was asking about steakhouses in the neighborhood that it didn't occur to me (or anyone else) to mention it.
across from daddy's is la piazzata or something, and also la locanda. locanda is a really good family run older school italian place. piazzata is a little more ambitious, but I haven't been there since they renovated a few months ago.

and last week i saw the ralph's deliery dude bringing in a shit ton of italian ice buckets in there under each arm somehow, and he looked super jolly, it's was like a summery santa
haha, that place is so funny because it seems like it should have been in this neighborhood forever, but it's only like a year or two old.

- i was initially upset when ralphs opened because the place that was in that spot before was my go-to sauce place. now i buy from anthony's, which isn't quite as good. it's passable.

- the whole najeeb/shoe business conversation up there is funny. he always told me he made ouds as his main business and the restaurant was a hobby.

yeah, I liked that place too. I just used some anthony's tomato sauce last night. added some garlic, olive oil and parsley, and it was good. I'm actually going to make a thread about it.
hahah ok, see you in there

- it seemed creepy at first, but apparently the story (was written up somewhere) is that the dude who runs that store's daughter works in some bensonhurst bakery. she wanted to open up her own around here but rents were crazy. sometimes she would bring extras to her dad's shop and he would give it customers, and the rest, as they say, is (fairly recent) history. a couple of the restaurants, including sel de mer according to that thing I saw, get their bread from her.

yeah, i really hope daddy's doesn't close. even on a night when it kinda sucks and i go somewhere else, i'm always glad it's still there for the other times when it's really good.
also, for what it's worth, this is jackie mckeown's favorite bar in the states.
