thank god i'm getting out of this neighborhood!
Our sources are telling us that Apple has purchased the building that currently houses the Salvation Army located at 176 Bedford Avenue (on the corner of Bedford and North 7th) in Williamsburg.
Rumors have been floating around for a year as to where the company may set up shop in Brooklyn (with most guessing it would be Downtown), and more recently it's been rumored that it would be in the new Edge complex.
In the past there have been mumblings that the Salvation Army building would become a McDonald's...so if this goes through, consider it a good thing, Williamsburg.

Yeah, I don't buy this. I mean, apple stores aren't just ANY store, they make every opening seem like a big deal and there aren't enough people in n. brooklyn who would actually buy anything there to justify a new one.
Honestly the one in 23 Wall Street seems weirder to me

despite the recent economic downturn and northside piers 1 going rent-to-own, there is a massive amount of condo inventory priced into the 2 millions. once the economy/real estate market turns around, there is going to be a revitalized push in condo sales like we saw when the waterfront was first rezoned. the fruits of that action are only now starting to be realized. that Edge building is going to be absolutely massive, and the fact that it includes a ton of retail space means that the WB waterfront is going to start to look really appealing to a lot of people with a lot of money.

why would anyone do that? most people have to take two trains to get into wililamsburg from the rest of brooklyn (and any other boros for that matter), which would require them to go right past the soho store and in some cases the 14th street store. also, the soho store and the 14th street stores are located in major shopping districts where you can buy things other than shitty homemade t shirts.

It is unrealistic to think that the neighborhood will stay the way it is (or was), so wouldn't you rather they put in an apple store as opposed to, say, a Wal-Mart??
(which, i'm not going to lie...I would totally shop at a Wal-Mart in wmsburg)

hmm.. last i checked, apple stores are about 1/30 the size of walmarts so that's a retarded comparison. and if you shop and give any money to walmart you are basically a horrible person. H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E.

when you're buying a computer or some shit you're generally taking a cab
people buying desktop computers (which is what i'm assuming you're talking bout since you can take a laptop easily on the train) is a rather small percentage of their sales i'd imagine. also, this still means you have to get to the apple store sans cab and if you're not from the area and don't know about northside there isn't always an abundance of yellow cabs like there is in, say, soho.

Last time I checked, I wasn't comparing SIZE, but rather how "horrible" one is vs the other (aside from the fact that 1:30 is hardly the ratio)... The whole reason I used Wal-Mart in my comparison was in anticipation of the latter part of your reply....duh

the only thing(s) this makes me sad for are the street vendors who sell stuff on that corner on sundays since the salvation army is closed.
well, that, and i already have a hard time getting around that corner when busy tourists are just stopping and staring aimlessly anyway, it'll be more annoying with an apple store there, i'm sure.
....but that salvation army is sort of a mess anyway.
