ehh, there's a lot of aussie/kiwi humor that i think a lot of (american) people won't get unless they're either from down under or know someone who could point out and explain it. it's honestly the saving grace for me.
if they were two dudes from the midwest or something, i'm sure i'd find the show insufferable.

yeah they filmed the first season at matchless/enids.. well the corner of driggs and manhattan
that one with the glasses was making a phone call in my doorway when i was trying to leave for work.
i told him off.. he apologized. then a month later i saw him on a billboard.

Any scene with Murray is very funny.
At first I did not like the show.
Then a friend FORCED ME TO WATCH IT AT GUNPOINT.

- i don't see the tenacious d comparison, mainly because neither member of t.d. is charming. only annoying.

yeah phil, some of the FoTC songs are kind of cheesy and lame. but there are a couple that i think are really memorable and the show just wouldn't be the same without them (boom boom, inner city pressure).
they don't quite have the musical dynamic of say, the mighty boosh, but i still find it entertaining.
