Is anyone else getting these emails about gang initiation tonight? (6381 views)

  • I've gotten two warning against women being slashes in the face by gang initiates tonight.

    As follows:
"As you two know, during the day, I manage public housing projects in Times Square.

I received a memo at work stating that gang activity is continuing with violent initiations tonight, October 31st, and will be targeting 30 young women. Legitimate sources have confirmed this, and stabbings began last night.

One of my coworkers just got a call, in her neighborhood- 3 girls faces were slashed around noon today on 125th st.

4 women in Brooklyn were stabbed last night...."

    and

    "hey all

i just want everyone to be aware that today and tonight there is some sort of bloods/folk nation initiation thing going down. they are particularly having girls target females on the street. they run up and slash the person's face or stab them.
this started yesterday and there have been multiple stabbings in the bronx and harlem. its supposed to continue more so tonight.
the police precinct chief here in the bronx thinks that it will be city wide (at leats in the areas that have bloods) and worse tonight, with retaliations also happening.

i don't want to rumor monger (but this is happening up here), however, tonight everyone just be aware of what is going on and be safe."

Hi All, checked with Norton Anti-Virus, and they are gearing up for this virus. I checked Snopes (URL above:), and it is for real.

Get this E-mail message sent around to your contacts ASAP.

PLEASE FORWARD THIS WARNING AMONG FRIENDS, FAMILY AND CONTACTS!

You should be alert during the next few days. Do not open any message with an attachment entitled 'POSTCARD FROM HALLMARK,' or 'POSTCARD FROM A FAMILY MEMBER,' regardless of who sent it to you. It is a virus which opens A POSTCARD IMAGE, which 'burns' the whole hard disc C of your computer. This virus will be received from someone who has your e-mail address in his/her contact list. This is the reason why you need to let all your contacts know about this. It is better to receive this message 25 times than to receive the virus and open it.

If you receive a mail called' POSTCARD,' even though sent to you by a friend, do not open it! Shut down your computer immediately.

This is the worst virus announced by CNN. It has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive virus ever. This virus was discovered by McAfee yesterday, and there is no repair yet for this kind of virus. This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where the vital information is kept.

COPY THIS, AND SEND IT TO YOUR FRIENDS. REMEMBER: IF YOU SEND IT TO THEM, YOU WILL BENEFIT ALL OF US

  • Hi All -
I think you all know that I don't send out hoaxes and don't do the reactionary thing and send out anything that crosses my path. This one, however, is a friend of a friend and I've given it enough credibility in my mind that I'm writing it up and sending it out to all of you.

My friend's friend was dating a guy from Afghanistan up until a month ago. She had a date with him around 9/6 and was stood up. She was understandably upset and went to his home to find it completely emptied. On 9/10, she received a letter from her boyfriend explaining that he wished he could tell her why he had left and that he was sorry it had to be like that. The part worth mentioning is that he BEGGED her not to get on any commercial airlines on 9/11 and to not to go any malls on Halloween. As soon as everything happened on the 11th, she called the FBI and has since turned over the letter.

This is not an email that I've received and decided to pass on. This came from a phone conversation with a long-time friend of mine last night.

I may be wrong, and I hope I am. However, with one of his warnings being correct and devastating, I'm not willing to take the chance on the second and wanted to make sure that people I cared about had the same information that I did.

  • violence against random people is usually spurred by dumb desperate teens, not gangs. a good friend of mine was beaten to death with a metal baseball bat in nj. rumors were going around that it was part of gang initiations that targeted the south asian population of Newark (most of them being international students at NJIT), but that turned out to be untrue.

    WILLIAM KLEINKNECHT

    March 3rd, 2005

NEW JERSEY: A young South Orange man pleaded guilty yesterday to the robbery and fatal beating of an pizza deliveryman who had just graduated with honors from the New Jersey Institute of Technology.

Phillip Pounds, 18, was in tears in Superior Court in Newark as he admitted using a baseball bat in the 2003 killing of Nabeel Siddiqui, a 24-year-old Pakistani immigrant whose parents spent their life saving to send him to college.

Turning to Asim Khan and Kalim Khan, two of Siddiqui's uncles sitting in the audience, Pounds said he never meant for the robbery plot by himself and three other teens to end in the student's death.

"I never intended the death of your family member," he said. "I am sorry for putting you through all that you are going through. I'm sorry. I'm just sorry."

Pounds pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter, robbery and other charges stemming from the Sept. 27, 2003, attack on the 5-foot-2, 110-pound victim on Haxtun Avenue in Orange.

In exchange for his guilty plea, Assistant Essex County Prosecutor Romesh Sukhdeo agreed to reduce a murder charge to aggravated manslaughter and recommend that Judge Betty Lester sentence him to no more than 25 years in prison. Lester set the sentencing for April 19.

In his plea, Pounds said he and the other teens called in a pizza order to Domino's about 9:30 p.m. and agreed that Pounds would hit the deliveryman with a baseball bat in the legs so they could take his car.

"I hit him with the bat," Pounds said when the judge asked him what happened after Siddiqui arrived.

"In what part of the body?" she asked.

    "In the head," he answered.

"How many times did you hit him?"

    "Once."

Pounds said he fled on foot after the robbery, and one of the other youths took Siddiqui's 1995 Nissan Altima.

Siddiqui lingered in a coma in the hospital for 10 days before dying, enough time for his mother to come from Pakistan and be outside his room.

  • not to belabor the point but thomas, can you see how your conception of who deserves violence is sort of fucked up? as in the above example, where it wasn't a "scrawny white boy" who got beaten, so therefore you might think the life has more value since you think "scrawny white boys" deserve it but a southeast asian does not?

  •  » quote
  • I don't hate anyone. I moved to williamsburg because it was a good location for work, and it is. I don't have to have a car(I moved to wburg after nearly dying in a car accident) and there's plenty to keep me occupied.

  • pointing it out is one thing. being choosy about with whom you choose to empathize, especially if they don't exactly mesh with your ideals, does discount the whole "peace & love" angle you so love to tout. it's not about being a nice person. it's about being a good person. know the difference.

Some people have much fewer options than we

  • "Councilwoman Diana Reyna of Brooklyn is considering a bill to ban the sale of machetes, The NY Times reports. For those familiar with the recent gang activity in Brooklyn, the Williamsburg area especially, Reyna's desire to ban the weapon should come as no surprise. This year there have been a number of machete attacks, allegedly all gang-related.

For at least one gang, the Trinitarios, the machete is their weapon of choice — practically an identifying trademark — even showing them off on their YouTube videos. The Times reports that the local gang "has adopted the name — and evidently, the preferred weapon — of a revolutionary group that fought against Haiti during the Dominican Republic’s struggle for independence in 1844."

Currently machetes can be found at hardware stores, which stock them for gardening purposes — but New Yorkers can probably find another way to tend to their patches of green. As for the bigger problem, the rise of gang violence (with or without this particular weapon), Luis Garden Acosta, president of El Puente Williamsburg community development group, tells the paper that gangs are a growing concern amongst the organization, and they're currently discussing the problem with the 90th Precinct. He notes that the lure for kids to join gangs likely has to do with the "abrupt gentrification," saying, “From the perspective of a young person, this is a community that does not care for him or her. Out of that milieu, you have some young people who rebel.”"
