  • Nope! People running screaming etc. Looks like no casualties on the ground but fdny radio said there was someone on the fourth floor...

  • Holy shit! New construction?

  • No - scaffolding on the side, old bldg being worked on apparently by people who didn't quite know what they were doing

  • apparently there are like 4 blocks of FDNY and its a total ruckus

  • Yeah you definitely don't see that shit every day. I was waiting on the corner of Myrtle and Hall with the dog while the lady went into Associated and I noticed a guy pushing the fire button on the corner callbox while talking into his phone but I looked around and didn't see a fire anywhere... about a minute later two fire trucks pull up right out front of Associated, I'm still looking around for the fire, then you could just hear the building start to crack, people on that side of Myrtle started to run, and boom, down it came. Big cloud of dust, people screaming... the awning had fallen off right over top of some people, I think they were ok but it looked bad...

this city lets so much illegal construction go on :( actually i dunno if its illegal to hire people who dont know what theyre doing but it should be. esp. considering the HELL legit construction companies have to go through by bloomberg

glad you and the lady and the bystanders all seem to be ok!

well... there was one girl who apparently had just made it out, she was sobbing into her phone because she thought her roommate was inside, I think that's who the fdny was talking about on the 4th floor.

  • Hopefully that person made it out safe! That's a pretty amazing thing to see bryan!

A little before 2 p.m., a four-story building on Myrtle Avenue, between Hall and Ryerson Streets, collapsed in the Clinton Hill/Bed Stuy neighborhood. Vesper Bar & Lounge was on the first floor. It's considered a second-alarm "Major Emergency." Apparently the Fire Department has accounted for all people who were inside the building.

According to folks on Williamsboard, there was "scaffolding on the side, old bldg being worked on apparently by people who didn't quite know what they were doing."

  • One of my employees called me a bit ago - she lives a block away and said its pure chaos and shes obviously going to be late.

Poor people, but good to hear everyone is accounted for.

weird, I would've thought the planes that flew through the buildings to be an indicator that .. you know.. the
buildings could collapse? i mean, just an idea.

Anyone hear about the owner of this property yet?

The building's owner, William Sang, was scheduled to appear in court on Monday for a hearing about that violation. He told the New York Times that the hearing had been postponed to allow time to repair the problems.

Sang, who was at the building on Sunday, said that the Buildings Department had inspected the problems last month.

"They said there was a crack but that it was OK to have tenants," he told the Times. He said he bought the building in 2006 and that a crack had been there for 10 years.
